The tax offices store various data that are electronically transmitted to them by employers and insurance providers. You can automatically transfer this data to your tax return. This saves you time and effort and avoids data entry errors. We explain the prefill process step by step.
Step 1: Request prefill data
You can easily request the prefill data via the account menu in the Taxfix app.
In the case of a joint assessment, the prefill data will always be applied for by both partners.
Enter your personal data and submit the application:
Step 2: Enter the activation code
As soon as you have requested the prefill data in the Taxfix app, we will send your application to the tax authorities. Within one to two weeks, they will send you a personal activation code (Freischaltcode) that you need to access the data.
In the case of a joint assessment each partner will receive their own individual activation code in a separate letter from the tax office.
The activation code consists of twelve numbers and letters and is sent to you by post from the tax office. The letter names Taxfix as the applicant and informs you about the "authorisation for data retrieval" (“Berechtigung zum Datenabruf”). You will find the code on the last page of the letter:
Enter the code in the Taxfix app and submit it to activate the data retrieval:
Step 3: The prefill data is ready
After entering the code, we retrieve your data from the tax office. As soon as it is available, we will inform you in the app and by email:
Now open the tax year you want to work on. Before you start, you can view and check the retrieved data. To do this, tap on "View prefill data":
As soon as you start with your tax return, you can check the retrieved data again. For each prefilled question, you can decide separately whether you want to use the information or not. Simply tap on the corresponding question:
Last step: Complete the details, submit the data - and your tax return is ready!
Finally, don't forget: Enter any other information that the tax office does not have, such as your income-related expenses, medical expenses or expenses for the children. Once you have completed all categories, you can submit your tax return and sit back: The tax office will send you your tax statement in approximately 6 to 12 weeks.
