With the prefilled tax return you save a lot of time and can avoid mistakes in data entry. We have compiled a list covering the most important questions so that you can use this function easily and conveniently.
What is prefill data?
The tax office stores relevant data which is transmitted to them electronically by employers and insurance companies. This includes information on salaries and certain insurance contributions. With your permission this information can be auto-populated into your tax return, saving you time and effort while improving the accuracy of your filing.
Will I be charged any additional costs for using this service?
No, the data retrieval for your tax return is free of charge.
How can I use prefill data?
You can easily apply for the prefill data directly in the Taxfix app. You will then receive a code from the tax office by post, which you can use to activate the service in the app. This enables us to retrieve your tax information stored with the tax authorities. As soon as it is available, you can start your tax return. We explain in detail how to use prefill data here.
Can the prefill information be corrected?
Yes, you can correct the prefill data in your tax return. We explain exactly how to do this in this article.
Can I state other expenses in my prefilled tax return?
Of course. You are able to include further details by entering these into the app by hand. You can enter additional data which is not already available to the tax office, such as income-related expenses or medical costs.
Can we also use prefill data if we file our tax returns jointly?
Yes, if you file a joint tax return as partners, you can also use prefill data. The application and activation process is essentially the same as for an individual assessment.
Please note that the prefill data must always be applied for by both partners in the case of a joint assessment. Each partner will receive their own individual activation code in a separate letter from the tax office. Once you have received both codes, you can enter them for each partner in the Taxfix app to activate the data retrieval.
I have already started filling out my tax return. Can I still use prefill data?
Once you have started working on your tax return, your data for the corresponding tax year can unfortunately no longer be retrieved. However, this is possible for other tax years. Simply activate the prefill data in the app. If you then start processing another tax return at a later date, you will be able to retrieve the data.
Does the prefill data affect tax returns that have already been filed?
No, the prefill data does not affect tax returns that have already been submitted. They will be processed by your tax office as usual.
Can I cancel the prefill data?
Yes, you can cancel the prefill data in the app at any time. Additionally, your activation code will automatically expire after 90 days. If you do not enter it within this time, the data retrieval will expire. You can still apply for prefill data again for the next year if you wish to do so.
How secure is the prefilled tax return?
Taxfix complies with all rules and regulations of the European and German data protection law. For prefill data retrieval we use the official ELSTER interface of the tax authorities. All data and details are only requested for the purpose of processing your tax returns and are stored and processed in accordance with our privacy policy.
