With the Taxfix app, you can quickly and easily record your public pension income in your tax return. The easiest way to do this is with a pension payment statement called “Rentenbezugsmitteilung”. We explain what that is.
What is the “Rentenbezugsmitteilung”?
Your pension provider electronically transmits all information relevant to your tax case to the tax authorities. You can find out exactly what this information is on your pension payment statement (Rentenbezugsmitteilung). It lists, for example, your pension income, the start of the pension and the pension adjustment amount. With the help of this data, the tax office determines whether and to what extent your pension income is taxed.
🚨Attention
The pension payment statement (Rentenbezugsmitteilung) is not the same as the pension notice (Rentenbescheid). In order to enter your pension in the Taxfix app, you need the Rentenbezugsmitteilung.
How do I receive the “Rentenbezugsmitteilung”?
As a pension recipient, you can request the pension statement online. It will then be sent to you every year by post. Once you have requested the document, it will be sent to you automatically in the following years - so you only have to request it once.
You can apply for the Rentenbezugsmitteilung on the internet at the German Pension Insurance (Deutsche Rentenversicherung):
Deutsche Rentenversicherung - Online services for insured persons
Select the item “Information über die Meldung an die Finanzverwaltung" for
- Versichertenrente (in case of your own retirement pension), or
- Hinterbliebenenrente (in case of an orphan’s pension, widow’s pension, or education pension)
Then you enter:
- The calendar year (Kalenderjahr) you need the information for
- Your insurance number (Versicherungsnummer)
- Your personal details (Angaben zur Person)
Click (4) “Absenden” (“Send”) to request the statement.
💡 After you have applied for the pension statement once for one or more years via the form, it will be sent to you automatically every year.
Do I have to declare my pension income in my tax return?
In principle, it is possible to submit a tax return without declaring your pension income. Since the tax office already knows this data, it will be taken into account in the assessment.
Please note, however, that the preliminary tax result in our app will not be correct and may differ from the result of the tax office if your pension income is missing. We therefore recommend that you always record your pension incoeme in your tax return with the help of the pension statement.
