You can partially deduct legal costs from your taxes. We have summarised the cases in which you can enter these costs in our app.
Legal costs in connection with work
At work, disagreements can arise regarding an unexpected and possibly unjustified dismissal, outstanding salary payments or bullying at the workplace. If you as an employee incur legal costs in these cases, they may be declared as income-related expenses in your tax return.
These legal costs that you have incurred in connection with your job can be entered in our app in the "Work" category.
Costs for suing for a university place
If you incurred costs for suing for your place at university, you can claim them as special expenses (first degree / Bachelor) or as income-related expenses (second degree or dual studies / Master). In both cases, you can enter the costs in our app in the category ''Education''. Before doing so, enter that you have studied in the category "Intro questions".
Can costs of a divorce be claimed?
The short answer is: generally no.
Until 2013, all costs that were directly related to the divorce could be deducted as extraordinary burdens. These included legal fees, court costs, expenses for appraisers and experts and travel costs to the lawyer, court and notary.
Since 1 January 2013, however, divorce costs can no longer be deducted from tax. Therefore, they are also not queried in the Taxfix app.
Further legal costs that cannot be deducted with Taxfix
Under certain circumstances, lawyer or court costs are also deductible in other disputes, for example in the context of rent disputes or if the costs are particularly high and thus threaten your existence. However, we cannot cover these tax cases. Therefore, you cannot enter the corresponding costs in the Taxfix app.
