The prefilled tax return step by step

You can use the pre-filled tax return in the Taxfix app or on your computer! This feature automatically imports the data stored by the tax office into your tax return. It saves time, reduces errors, and makes the process easier. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how it works.

Important Step: Activation Code for the Tax Return

To activate your pre-filled tax return, enter the activation code directly in your Taxfix account. Start processing your tax return only after the tax office data has arrived and the "View Data" button appears. Once your data has been retrieved from the tax authorities, you will be notified via email and in the app.

If your activation code has expired, been lost, or was canceled, you can request a new one in the Taxfix app or via your browser.

• Check validity: If your old code is less than 90 days old, it may still be valid.
• Request a new code: If the code is invalid, cancel your existing request and apply for a new one with just a few clicks.

Good to know: The pre-filled tax return is not mandatory

The pre-filled tax return (VaSt) is a practical, free optional service that helps you save time. It allows some of your tax data – like your income tax or health insurance contributions – to be automatically imported from the tax office into the app.

💡 You do not have to use this service to file your tax return with Taxfix. You can also enter all information manually. It’s a helpful tool, but not required.

Many users find the pre-filled return a real time-saver – but if you choose not to activate it, that’s absolutely fine. Your tax return can still be fully completed and submitted correctly without it.

How It Works – Step by Step:

1. Activate the Pre-Filled Tax Return

👉 Log into your Taxfix account, go to "Pre-Filled Tax Return" in your profile, and confirm the data retrieval. Enter your personal information to request the activation code.

🚨 For joint assessment, please request a "Code for Partner"—each partner will receive a separate letter with their own activation code from the tax office.

2. Wait for the Code

📬 Your tax office will send the activation code by mail within about 2 weeks.

💡 The code consists of 12 numbers and letters and is found on the last page of the letter under "Authorization for Data Retrieval".

3. Enter the Activation Code

🔑 Go back to your Taxfix account, select "Pre-Filled Tax Return", and enter the code.
💡 There are two places in the app where you can enter your code:

• On the overview page of your tax cases, where you’ll find a blue field to enter the code.
• In the account menu under "Pre-Filled Tax Return", where you’ll also find an option to enter the code.

After entering the code, click "Submit Code" to activate the pre-filled tax return.

4. Automatically Import Data

🗂️ Your tax data will be available in your account after about 48 hours. Select the relevant tax year and tap "View Data" to check the information retrieved from the tax office.

5. Edit the Tax Return

🎉 Now you can start working on your tax return! If data is available, you can pre-fill fields with the tax office data for automatic entry.

💡 You can review and modify each pre-filled entry as needed. Select "Show All" for a detailed view of the retrieved data.

Final Step: Complete and Submit Your Tax Return

• Add all other relevant data that the tax office does not receive automatically (e.g., work-related expenses, medical costs, childcare expenses).
• Review your tax return and submit it with one click.
• Your tax assessment notice will arrive in approximately 6 to 12 weeks.

🎉 Done! Your tax return is completed with minimal effort.

Using the Pre-Filled Data

The retrieved data cannot be corrected, as it is electronically transmitted from the tax office.

However, you can review the tax office data and decide whether to use it for your tax return.

Whenever you reach a field that can be pre-filled, a summary of the retrieved tax office data will be displayed.

After completing your tax return, you can still view your retrieved data in the category overview under the "View Data" button.
