If you've already submitted your tax return, you might later want to amend or withdraw it. This article explains what happens if you submit your tax return twice, and what options you have if you wish to cancel a submitted return.
- A tax return can only be submitted once per tax year. After processing by the tax office, resubmission is no longer possible.
- Cancelling a return after submission is not technically possible, as the return has already been legally transmitted.
- If changes are required, a new version can be submitted as long as the tax office has not yet started processing your original return—this service is free of charge.

Tax return filed twice—what happens next?
A tax return for the same tax year can generally only be submitted once. Once the tax office has processed your return and issued a tax assessment notice, submitting another return for that year is no longer possible.
Please note that, due to technical and data protection reasons, we cannot verify if you’ve already submitted a return via another channel. If you have submitted a second return while one already exists, the only option available is to wait for the tax assessment and file an objection if necessary.
Cancelling after submission—is it possible?
Once your tax return has been successfully and legally transmitted to the tax office, cancellation is unfortunately no longer possible.
However, if you wish to make changes, we have a solution: as long as the tax office has not yet started processing your return, you can submit an updated version. This new version will replace your original submission, and this service is free of charge.
If you have already received your tax assessment notice, you can file an objection within one month to request corrections.
What happens to my payment?
For technical and data protection reasons, we cannot verify if you’ve already submitted a tax return for the same tax year via another method. Our service processes exclusively those returns submitted through the Taxfix app.
Once your tax return has been successfully transmitted via our app, our service is considered complete. Since your return has already been legally submitted to the tax office, cancellation or refund is unfortunately not possible due to technical reasons.
We understand that circumstances can change, and we're happy to support you in finding the best possible solution.
What are my alternatives?
If you'd like to adjust your submitted tax return, you have two options:
- Submit a revised return before processing: If the tax office has not yet started reviewing your return, you can submit an updated version.
- File an objection after receiving your tax assessment notice: If your assessment has already been issued, you have one month to file an objection and request corrections.
