The income tax certificate is a key document in calculating your tax refund. In the Taxfix app, you can enter the information in three different ways—whichever suits you best.
-
You can take a photo, upload a file, or enter the data manually.
-
All entries should be made top to bottom, exactly as shown on your certificate.
-
You can correct errors manually.
-
You can also enter multiple certificates or employers.
🚀 Your Guide
How to enter your income tax certificate
You can easily enter your income tax certificate in the “Job” category of your tax return. There you indicate that you were employed and then choose between three options: take a photo, upload a file, or enter manually. Simply choose the method that works best for you.
-
Under “About you”, indicate that you were employed.
-
In the “Job” category, you can now enter your income tax certificate.
You have three options:
-
📷 Take a photo: Hold your camera steady and make sure there’s good lighting.
-
📁 Upload a file: Accepted formats: jpeg, png, PDF (max. 10 MB).
-
✍️ Enter manually: Enter the values from top to bottom. You can skip empty fields.
⚠️ Important: Always check your entries for accuracy. You can manually edit all values.
Error messages when entering: what do they mean?
The app will show you alerts if values are missing or appear implausible. This doesn’t necessarily mean your data is wrong. Please check:
-
Do Line 3 (gross salary) and Line 4 (income tax) match exactly?
-
Are commas placed correctly (e.g. 1500.50)? You don't need thousand separators.
-
Is a value too high? Delete the entry completely and re-enter the correct amount.
⚠️ If certain lines are empty (e.g. for civil servants or soldiers), the app may still show a warning. If you're sure the entries are correct, simply tap “Data checked” to proceed.
What about the fields from line 34 onward?
Lines from 34 onward are not queried in the app, as they are individually used by the employer. These may include allowances or supplementary pension contributions.
-
∅ Pension contributions: If applicable, can be entered under “Expenses” if tax-deductible.
-
∅ Salary conversion (Entgeltumwandlung) is usually not deductible and doesn’t need to be entered.
-
∅ Employer allowances: Deduct these from the corresponding expenses or indicate them as reimbursements.
No income tax certificate available?
-
Request it from your employer’s HR department.
-
Alternatively, request a copy from your tax office, as your employer submitted it there.
-
Enter “0” in all fields in the app to proceed. While the result may be incorrect, the tax office already has the data on file.
Multiple employers or certificates?
-
You can enter a separate certificate for each employer in the “Work” category.
-
If the same certificate is shown again, simply select “No” when asked “Another certificate?” in the “Income tax certificate” tab.
Important note on entry order
Please always enter your data from top to bottom. Especially Line 3 (gross salary) and Line 4 (income tax) directly affect the result. Make sure to enter them correctly and with proper comma placement.
