🚀 Your Guide
Home Office Flat Rate or Workroom?
If you worked from home, it depends on where and how you worked:
-
Kitchen table, couch, or living room corner? Then the home office flat rate applies:
-
€5 per day up to 2022
-
€6 per day from 2023 onward
-
Max. 210 days per year (applies for 2023 and 2024)
-
-
A separate room used only for work? Then you can claim a workroom:
-
Requirement: completely separated room
-
No visible private use
-
The tax office may ask for floor plans or a rental agreement
-
💡 The app guides you through simple questions to determine the right option.
Requirements for a Home Workroom
-
The room must be part of your home and have a door separating it.
-
It must be used almost exclusively for work (max. 10% private use).
-
Each person in the home should have access to at least one private-use room.
-
The workroom must be the main place of your professional activity.
Since 2023 (also valid for 2024): It no longer matters whether your employer provides a workspace – what counts is whether your workroom is your main work location. Then you can either:
-
claim the flat rate of €1,260 per year
-
or deduct your actual costs proportionally
The Taxfix app automatically checks whether the flat rate or actual cost method is better for you.
Deductible Costs for a Home Workroom
You can proportionally deduct the following (based on room size):
-
Rent, heating, electricity, water
-
Cleaning and maintenance
-
Insurance
-
Loan interest, property tax, depreciation (if you own the property)
Furnishing costs can be deducted in full:
-
Desk, office chair, carpet, lamps, curtains
⚠️ Luxury or decorative items are not accepted.
💡 Work equipment like computers or office supplies can be deducted even if the workroom is not recognized.
The Home Office Flat Rate Without a Separate Workroom
Since 2020, you can deduct costs even without a dedicated workroom – thanks to the home office flat rate.
-
€5/day (up to 2022), €6/day (from 2023 and 2024)
-
Max. 210 days/year → up to €1,260
-
