🚀 Your Guide
The disability flat rate
Do you regularly have expenses due to your disability, such as for aids or care? Then the flat rate can help you.
You don’t need receipts from doctors or pharmacies. A confirmation from the authorities showing your degree of disability (GdB) is enough. From a GdB of 50, you also receive a disability ID card.
Who can claim the flat rate?
Since 2021, you can claim the flat rate from a GdB of 20.
Previously, more proof was required. Now it’s simpler.
The flat rate also applies to children with disabilities. Their parents can claim it.
What costs are covered by the flat rate?
The flat rate covers many typical expenses, such as:
-
Daily help (e.g., guide dog)
-
Care at home or in a facility
-
Extra laundry costs if you need to wash more often
You don’t need to list these costs individually. They’re included in the flat rate.
How much is the flat rate?
The higher your GdB, the higher the flat rate. Since 2021, these amounts apply:
GdB | Annual flat rate |
---|---|
20 | €384 |
30 | €620 |
40 | €860 |
50 | €1,140 |
60 | €1,440 |
70 | €1,780 |
80 | €2,120 |
90 | €2,460 |
100 | €2,840 |
If you have the symbol “H” (helpless) or “Bl” (blind), you receive €7,400.
Can I deduct other costs in addition to the flat rate?
Yes, for things that don’t occur regularly. For example:
-
Costs for a rehabilitation stay
-
Modifications to your home or car
-
Special equipment like a screen reader
These costs must be backed by receipts.
The tax office first checks your income. Example:
You earn €15,000 per year and are single. Then you have to cover €750 yourself. Only costs above that amount count as deductible.
Travel expenses are also important:
-
GdB 80 or higher: up to 3,000 km (€900)
-
With aG symbol: up to 15,000 km (€4,500)
Do you commute to work? If you have a GdB of 70 or GdB of 50 with a walking disability, you can deduct every kilometer (round trip) at €0.30.
Can care and housework also be claimed as household-related services?
You pay someone to help around the house or clean? Then you can deduct 20% of those costs.
But: If you use the disability flat rate, you cannot deduct care costs again separately.
