Some types of building savings contracts ("Bausparverträge") can be included in your tax return. In this guide, we explain which ones qualify and how to enter them in the Taxfix app.
-
Only specific contracts are relevant for tax purposes – e.g. home Riester.
-
Contributions made through your employer may also be eligible.
-
Depending on the contract type, you'll enter it under either "Expenses" or "Job" in the app.
🚀 Your Guide
Which Building Savings Contracts Are Tax-Deductible?
You can claim a building savings contract only if it's a Riester contract, also known as a home Riester. Contributions to these contracts may qualify as special expenses.
📍 If your employer contributes to your contract, these are considered employee savings contributions (vermögenswirksame Leistungen). This could make you eligible for the savings bonus (Arbeitnehmersparzulage). Learn more in our article "Employee Savings Contributions: How to Enter Them in the Taxfix App".
How to Enter a Riester Contract in the App
Riester contracts should be entered in the "Expenses" category of the Taxfix app, under Pension/Insurance Contributions.
You usually receive a yearly statement from your contract provider. If you don't have it, simply request it from them.

How to Report Employer Contributions (VL)
If your employer makes contributions into your building savings contract, answer "Yes" to the question about employee savings contributions in the "Job" section of the app.
Taxfix doesn’t ask for the exact amount, because this is usually transmitted to the tax office electronically by the provider.
📌 If you're unsure, check with your employer or your contract provider.
