What to Do if the Deadline Is Approaching and You Don’t Have the Code?
If your submission deadline is near but your code hasn’t arrived, don’t worry. You can still complete your tax return manually in the app – even if you’ve already requested the pre-filled version.
Just open the relevant tax year in the app. Once you answer all the questions, you can submit your return to the tax office.
Can I Use the Activation Code Later?
Yes. Once you receive the activation code by post, you have 90 days to enter it in the Taxfix app. After it’s activated, the code remains valid indefinitely – no need to apply again each year.
Once active, your tax data (e.g., income, insurance contributions) will be automatically imported for future tax years until you revoke access.

What If the Code Doesn’t Arrive?
You requested the activation code, but it’s been over two weeks with no letter? Please check:

Is your address correctly registered with the tax office?

Did you fully complete the request in the app?
If the code was lost, expired, or the process was interrupted, you can apply for a new one:

Open your account in the app or browser.

Go to “Pre-filled Tax Return”.

Cancel the old request (only if the previous code is less than 90 days old).

Check that your personal data (name, birthdate, tax ID) is correct.

Submit a new request.
The new code will be sent again by post within about two weeks. Once received, enter it in the app to start the data import.
❗ Note: The code only works for tax years that haven’t been started. You cannot retroactively apply it to returns already submitted or in progress.
ELSTER Users: Can I Use the Pre-Filled Tax Return with Taxfix?
Unfortunately not. If you have an ELSTER account, you currently cannot link it with Taxfix to use the pre-filled tax return (VaSt).
Alternative: You can enter your tax data manually in the app and still complete your return. We’re working on integrating ELSTER in the future.
Joint Filing: Key Info for Couples
👥 Each partner receives a separate activation code – both codes must be entered in the app.
⏳ Only one code arrived? Don’t worry, sometimes the tax office takes up to two weeks to send both codes.
🔄 Still no code after three weeks?
Cancel the existing requests for both partners and apply again.
💡 Tip: Double-check your personal data (name, birthdate, tax ID) before submitting a new request.
Extended Deadline with the Expert Service
If you submit your tax return with help from a tax advisor – such as via the Taxfix Expert Service – your filing deadline is automatically extended. Instead of the standard deadline, the new deadline is July 31 of the following year.
