Divorces can be expensive ā especially due to lawyer and court fees. But what part of those costs can you claim on your taxes?
š Quick & Easy
- Since 2013, divorce-related costs are generally no longer tax-deductible.
- Non-deductible expenses include lawyer fees, court fees, expert opinions, and travel costs.
- An exception only applies if the expenses are necessary to secure your basic living needs ā which is rarely the case in practice.
- The Taxfix app does not ask about divorce costs, as they are not considered in tax filings.
