What is the pre-filled tax return?
Many of the details relevant for your tax return are already available at the tax office. With the pre-filled tax return (VaSt), you can retrieve this data and import it into your tax return automatically.
This is only possible if you’ve requested data access and activated the feature in the Taxfix app.
What data is retrieved?
The tax office stores various types of data, which are electronically submitted by employers and insurance providers. The following information is provided by the tax office – if available:
- Wage tax certificates from your employer
- Compensation payments such as sickness benefit, parental allowance, or unemployment benefit
- Details about church tax affiliation
- Contributions to Riester pension plans
- Personal data (e.g., name, date of birth, tax ID)
💡 Good to know: This data is typically reported to the tax office at the beginning of the year – usually between January and the end of February.
How does it work in the app?
If you’ve activated the retrieval feature, your tax office data appears directly in the app. For each relevant question in your tax return, the app will show a note when pre-filled data is available. Tap "Show all" to view all retrieved data in detail.
👉 Important: You cannot change the transmitted data, as it comes directly from the tax office. But you can decide individually whether to use the data or enter your own information.

Can I enter the data myself?
💡 Yes – you do not have to use the pre-filled data. If you prefer, you can manually enter your information. The app always shows both options, and you choose what gets included.
